Meet the Housemaster...
Dan Nicholas took over as Housemaster of The Grove in September 2009.  He was educated at Shrewsbury (Oldham’s Hall) and, following a gap year in Grenoble University and as a wind-surfing instructor in Greece, he studied Economics and Politics at Grey College, Durham.  He has since gained an MA in Defence Studies from Cranfield University.

He was appointed on the staff in 2007 to teach History and Classics, having been in the Army Air Corps for 23 years where he was fortunate enough to fly helicopters in many different areas of the world and to qualify as a helicopter instructor. His final appointment was commanding the Army Air Corps Training Regiment in Middle Wallop, Hampshire.

Dan is married to Fenella who, having worked in sports management (IMG) for many years, took a career break before re-training  as a personal fitness and gym instructor.  They have 2 children, Zak (2000) and Georgiana (2002), and a loyal Labrador, Tarka.

Prior to becoming Housemaster of The Grove, Dan was Assistant Housemaster in Rigg's for 2 years.  He coaches rowing and teaches scuba diving.  His interests include amateur dramatics, skiing, flying (fixed wing and helicopter), sailing and hill-walking, as well as playing for the staff Ramblers Football Team.
