Shrewsbury is unusual in playing Rugby in the Lent term only, but this does not prevent a large number of boys from playing at a high level; indeed, almost every fixture is against schools who have been playing since September, so the learning curve in January can be steep. There are now opportunities for squads to get together towards the end of the Michaelmas term to start their preparations.  Keen players are also able to play club rugby before Christmas.  Fixtures are arranged against a number of top rugby playing schools, including King Edward's Birmingham, Old Swinford Hospital and Warwick.  The U16s and U18s now both enter at the Rosslyn Park Sevens in March.  The senior squad has an annual tour.
